Enrique Colin won vacant WBC International lightweight title on August 23 2008 in Tijuana (Mexico) when he stopped in round 10 Rodrigo Juarez (Mexico, 14-6-1, 10). He made his first defence October 4 2008 WUD12 Gerardo Zayas. Colin was supposed to defend his belt on March 14 2009 against Carlos Urias (39-19-0, 28 K0s, Mexico) but the latter eventually pulled out and was replaced by unranked Jaime Maldonado. The WBC International Committee did not consider Maldonado worthy to fight for the Championship and the fight turned out to be a non-title bout. The contest took place at the Estadio Carranza Limon of Guasave (Sinaloa, Mexico) and Colin won it by KO in round 2.

Enrique Colin was stripped of his WBC International lightweight title 2009, July 18 for failing to make a defence within the regular deadline.
