Amster was a solid fighter who on his good days could compete at a very high level. Record still very incomplete. Amster boxed in college and started his pro career by just happening to be at a boxing match and a substitute was needed for the next bout. Amster volunteered and won by a knockout in the third round--his pro career was launched. From a report in the Newark Star-Eagle, June, 15th, 1928. The highlight of Amster’s career were his two KO’s of highly regarded Sollie Castellano in 1926.

Amster continued boxing off-and-on into the late 1930s in St. Louis.
