- Melchior worked as Jess Willard's sparring partner in April 1918 while Willard prepared for a proposed title defence with Fred Fulton. From 1916 to 1919 Melchior put food on the table by driving a hack in Chicago.
- Melchior was slated to box Homer Smith in a six-round prelim to the Dempsey-Miske championship tilt at Benton Harbour, but suffered a leg injury in training.
Heavyweight boxer Tony Melchior's name was often misspelled "Melchoir" or "Melichar" by newspapers of his day.
