Dawson worked in a variety of roles in boxing after his ring career ended. He was a referee and judge beginning in the mid-1930s. He would promote in Honolulu in 1933 and 1940, and would also work as a trainer during the 1940s. Dawson had moved to Napa, California by the 1960s, where he continued training boxers. His brother Bennie Dawson, was a club fighter on the Islands in the 1930s and early 1940s.
