Jimmy Butler had come to the United States from England circa 1904/05, and to the Tacoma, Washington area around 1907/08. Apparently he had been nicknamed the "Plum Pudding Kid" when he mother mailed to him in Tacoma some of this food from London, England, one Christmas season. He "got tangled up with customs over duty" on this English plum pudding. He had some bouts in Tacoma and Aberdeen, Washington, as well as Victoria, British Columbia. He had also fought in Eastern Canada before moving back to England--according to the the Feb. 11, 1908, and Dec. 3, 1910 Tacoma Daily News (which contained a brief bio.), and the Oct. 14, 1911 TDN. By 1910 he was living in London, where he ran an a tea room/eatery.
