Roy Edmonds won the 1969 New York Golden Gloves 160lb Open Championship. Edmonds stopped Jimmy Gibney of the Police Athletic League in the first round of the finals to win the Championship. In 1968 Edmonds lost in the finals of the 160 lb. Sub-Novice division to Raymond Hernandez. Edmonds trained at the Empire Sporting Club in New York City.
