Fredrick Schlechter died of injuries sustained Feb. 8, 1896, during a bout with Henry Pluckfelder at Philadelphia, PA, USA, in Schlecter's mattress factory. Schlecter's head hit so hard on the floor that his skull was fractured. He died Feb. 10, and Pluckfelder, an ex-policeman, was arrested. Los Angeles Times
