Mickey Davitt was a promising lightweight prospect in 1963. Born on May 15, 1938, he graduated from Lourdes High School in Rochester, Minn. in 1955. Following his graduation, the tall, lanky Davitt, joined the United States Marine Corps.
In 1953, Davitt was a runner-up in the flyweight division at the Minnesota Golden Gloves. In 1954, he reached the finals. In 1960, following his Marine Corp service, Davitt won the 135 pound Minnesota Golden Gloves. He ended his amateur career with a 50-8 record.
Davitt's father, Claude, was an amateur boxing judge and had boxed as an amateur in the Civilian Conservation Corp.
Mickey and his wife Ruth had a son, Jeffrey in 1963. Davitt was considered a promising prospect in 1963, when he won 7 of 9 bouts.
