Albert Yvel, of Algerian-Hebrew descent, was the first of many excellent North African fighters to emerge from that region after the Second World War. Yvel won the North African Middleweight Title in 1946, this was his first important title in his career. Yvel won the French National LightHeavyweight Title in 1949 and in 1950 he won the EBU's European Lightheavyweight Title also. Ranked by The Ring as the number 9th Light Heavyweight in the world for part of 1950 and 1951.
