Bonomo was shot to death by Richard Lucien Schmitt, after Bonomo allegedly went there to start a fight with Schmitt in a dispute over his wife's affections. Officers told the New Orleans States-Item that Bonomo had engaged in Schmitt in fights on two other occasions. Bonomo had been charged with attempted murder of Schmitt, prior to dying of his gunshot wounds.
