According to information on the back of an International Newsreel photo dated Oct 27, 1924, Jack Hare, then 45-years-old, had a record of some 300 wins and only three losses. In 1890, he had stowed away aboard a ship from Australia, where he had won his first bout. In 1898, he had walked 110 miles from Cape Town to Johannesburg to fight Jimmy Darrell winning the Bantamweight Championship of South Africa.
