Biography
‘’‘Laudelino José “Lino” Barros’’’ is a Brazilian former professional boxer from Bonito, Mato Grosso do Sul. As a child, he worked cutting sugarcane. He began practicing karate as a teenager, then developed an interest in boxing after watching fights on television. He later traveled to São Paulo state and trained in Osasco.
Barros rose through Brazil’s amateur boxing ranks and represented the country in international competition. At the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, he advanced to the light-heavyweight final after defeating Argentina’s Hugo Garay in the semifinal and earned a silver medal. He went on to represent Brazil at light heavyweight in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he faced Australia’s Danny Green.
Barros made his professional debut on March 6, 2001. He competed through 2016 and finished with ‘’‘39 wins, 3 losses and no draws, including 31 wins by knockout’’’. His professional career included bouts at cruiserweight and heavyweight. He was managed by Johnny Reetz and trained by Sidney Gomes, who had also worked with him during his amateur career.
On June 4, 2016, Barros defeated Raphael Zumbano by unanimous decision over ten rounds in Osasco, São Paulo. The bout was contested for the vacant ‘’‘UBF Inter-Continental Heavyweight title’’’ and the Brazilian Heavyweight title.
