Zolani Marali was shot and killed on February 4, 2022, at his Johannesburg apartment in what insiders believe was a hit. He was 44.

Marali was born on May 5, 1977, in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, South Africa, and was an outstanding amateur, winning the flyweight title at the 1999 South African championships and winning a bronze medal at the All-Africa Games in the flyweight class. He was active from 2001 to 2015 and compiled a record of 24-6-0 (13 KOs/KO by 3).
