"Tessier was an all-round athlete at Cathedral high school—specializing in football. After graduating, he turned down a scholarship—preferring a boxing career. 'I come from a family of ten,' informs Andre, a quiet and polite lad. 'Two of my older brothers were boxers. My youngest brother, Gerard—only 18 and still going to high school—is boxing as a pro.'

"Tessier started fisticuffing at the age of sixteen. 'He won 20 out of 21 amateur bouts,' spoke up manager Al Braverman, 'later reversing his lone defeat. Andres is winner of the Connecticut State middleweight title. He turned pro under my care Oct. 1952; has won 5 and drew in 2 out of 18 contests. Scored four consecutive kayoes at the Valley Arena, in Holyoke, Mass.'

"Of French descent, Tessier (pronounced Tes-si-ay) collects recordings, classics and bebop, as a hobby. Andre is cool under fire, can take a hefty wallop and is able to flatten an opponent with a few punches at any moment of a fight. That is what makes a thrilling performer."
