Jay Lambert was a member of the 1948 United States Olympic Team, boxing in the Heavyweight division. He earned his berth by defeating Norvel Lee, who would capture the Light Heavyweight Gold Medal in 1952. Lambert was inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame in 1977.

Lambert became a medical doctor after his professional career and volunteered as a ringside physician for the next 40 years.
