Phineas "Lucky" Nhlengethwa, as an amateur won several South Africa Amateur Boxing Union titles, with a reported final record of 48-13. Nhlengethwa's very mild-mannered, pleasant nature made him one of South Africa most likable and friendly boxers outside the ring. His friendliness with American boxers fighting and touring his country led to him becoming interested in the U.S.A., and later making it his home.

He started his professional boxing career in his homeland with several wins -- many which have not been confirmed and noted by Boxrec. After boxing in the United States for four years and working as a sparring partner for some of the top guns in the game, Nhlengethwa retired from competing, and started to teach and train boxers. He resides in San Diego, Ca., (USA), where is he a very popular trainer with aspiring young boxers, youths and the general public.
