Jim Briggs was a black middleweight/light-heavyweight from Barbados. He weighed 150-170 lbs. He began boxing about 1912. Before coming to Panama he is said to have had these fights, so far unverified:

He is supposed to have fought in Jamaica in 1926 and possibly met Sam Langford in Mexico as many as three times in 1924, losing in six, losing by knockout in 8, and again by knockout in 4.
Scheduled to meet Eliseo Quintana in Jamaica on Nov 22, 1926, postponed to Dec -- Quintana and Briggs never fought. Quintana pulled out with an illness and was later sued by the promoter of the fight for monies given for training expenses.
