Cohen was of Tunisian-Hebrew heritage, one of the many talented North African Jewish fighters who began their careers after World War II ended. The best being bantamweight world champions Robert Cohen and Alphonse Halimi. In the most important fight of his career Cohen stopped the UK's Jimmy Batten by KO in the 3rd rd for the EBU's European SuperWelterweight Title in 1978-he lost the title in 1979 to Marijan Benes. Cohen retired shortly after this loss.
