Pro Boxer: Record
As a sailor aboard the U.S.S. Lexington, Al Longoria won a 1929 Navy boxing tournament at Navy Field, San Diego, Cal. and the United States Navy championship at Balboa Stadium, Canal Zone in the same year. In February 1930 he was on a 45 day shore leave to visit his father in San Antonio, Tex.
Upon winning the 1929 U.S. Navy title the Observer, a Navy paper, described Longoria as follows: 'Longoria is a boxer rather than a slugger, but he can punch - he's a straight hitter in the open, with a nice one-two that jars and hurts and he has a murderous left hook to the body - it was this punch that dropped Baldwin in the title bout and practically won the fight for Al.'
