Bill Rickard was from Vancouver, B.C., Canada. He was managed by J. M. McMahon, who stated on May 27, 1912, that Rickard had had 10 bouts in the previous two months and had won all of them.

November 23rd, 1910 A Bill Rickard was scheduled to fight Ben Tremble in Marmath, ND. The fight was called off by the local sheriff.

However, a Dec. 16, 1911 article in the Seattle Star suggests that he may have been from Minneapolis. He was a football player, went to college, and wanted to see the world. He read a newspaper article about the lack of amateur heavyweight boxers in California, so he headed there to become a boxer and earn some money, after fabricating an impressive amateur record. From San Francisco he went to Hawaii. Then to Paris to fight Sam McVea. Then on to London. [1]
