Born near Aberdeen, Scotland, Day emigrated to Canada in 1906. Already involved in amateur boxing, he took it up while working as a Toronto police constable and won the Canadian amateur title in 1907. At the age of 35 Day tried his hand at the pro game but soon found he lacked sufficient drive to get into or maintain real fighting condition. He enlisted in the Canadian army in 1914 and fought in France where he was wounded. Sometime in 1919 he committed suicide at his home in Toronto. His amateur medal was found buried in his yard some years later.

  • March 29, 1907 Day outpointed Jersey Baldwin in three rounds.
  • March 30, 1907 Day beat Joe Christie in the heavyweight final of three four-minute rounds. [Charlie Crow of Hamilton challenged Day to a five round fight]

  • October 26, 1909 Day easily out-boxed Norman Henderson in a 3-round amateur bout.
  • November 28, 1909 Day KO'd Dan Murphy of Boston in the first round of an amateur bout.
  • April 11, 1910 Day boxed Kendal Salisbury of the New York A.C. at Boston. Day, not in the best of shape, won the first round, was knocked down in the second round, but came back strong in round three of an amateur bout. What could have been declared a draw went down as a points win for the American.
  • April 25, 1910 Canadian Amateur Championships at Massey Hall, Toronto. Bob Day needed less than a round to dispatch 300 lb giant E.J. Cassidy of Ottawa in the heavyweight final. Day had been scheduled to box Kendal Salisbury but the latter failed to show.
