Frank Van Hee was born on a farm near Snohomish, Washington.
According to an April 17, 1933 Everett Daily Herald newspaper article, he was Belgian. It was reported that, by then, he had scored 17 KOs in his last 20 bouts, all in three rounds or less, "with a paralyzing left punch to the stomach." "He gained the distinction of being the first man to ever knock out Leo Lomski...." (This was their second bout together; the first ended in a draw.) By April 1933, Van Hee had been boxing for three years. His record was reported in that newspaper article as being, so far, 36 total, with two losses (to Garfield Johnson and Dynamite Jackson).
According to the family, Frank Van Hee never married. He had three sisters, one of whom kept track of his bouts. His brother had a son, but that son never married. So that Van Hee name died out. There are many other Van Hees in the Washington area, however.
Van Hee's boxing scrapbooks still survive, possessed by Bob Jepperson of Bellingham, WA. [1]
It was the basis of a chapter of his book: A Dream, A Buck, An Era [2].
