Max Pippow was a Berlin-based referee from at least the mid-1930s to the late 1950s.
Pippow became widely-known for being the referee knocked down by an outraged Peter Mueller in his June 7, 1952 bout with Hans Stretz. The newsphoto was published world-wide in papers and magazines. Mueller had also knocked down his cornermen and manager/trainer/father-in-law Jupp Thelen. Mueller was disqualified for life, but the ban was later lifted after only a few months.
Pippow also became known for making a controversial decision to disqualify Randy Sandy in the February 14, 1959 Hans-Werner Wohlers vs. Randy Sandy bout.
