Ricky Gonzalez retired in 2004 from the New York City Police Department, after 20 years of service. That same year he turned pro as a boxing referee. He did the amateurs for eight years as well, before leaving in 2007. Gonzalez is licensed in his hometown of New York, the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut, and Rhode Island. He is also a member of the International Boxing Federation.
