Becker's Russian-Jewish family immigrated to the United States in 1906. Becker entered boxing promotion with his brother Sam Becker in 1939 and the two would promote many of Cincinnati's top matches, until Benny's retirement in 1956. The brothers would promote 29 out of the 37 matches Ezzard Charles fought in Cincinnati. Their boxing promotion company was named the Becker Boxing Club. Another brother Joseph, purportedly also boxed, also under the management of Sam Becker. Becker worked as a salesman with Becker Clothing, Inc., of which his brother Sam was the founder and owner.
