Earl Puryear was considered one of the 1920s "Golden Bantams". He started his boxing career as an amateur around 1906 in Denver, Colorado. In 1910 or 1911 he won the 105 pound amateur championship in Denver, and turned professional. [3] [4]

He claimed to have fought over 200 bouts by July 1917. [5]

In February 1918 he was accepted for the draft (for what became known as World War I): [6]. He was discharged in 1919. [7]

Puryear was suspended by the NYSAC in 1920 for failing to meet Charlie Beecher. [8]

According to the Find A Grave website, one Earl W. Puryear was born on October 15, 1894 and died on June 3, 1979. He is buried in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.

According to his registration card in digital form in the U.S., World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942 database, one Earl Waldorf Puryear was born on October 15, 1894 in Denver, Colorado. At the time of his registration on April 27, 1942, he was working for the "U.S. Engineers" in Florence, Nebraska and was living in Omaha, Nebraska. Puryear was 5 feet, 4-1/2 inches in height and weighed 120 pounds.
