Cyril Hoppe (also spelled Cyrille), a black fighter from Martinique, was by 1941 undefeated. After his fight in 1941, where the Frenchman Coureau died, Hoppe's life and career turned tragic. He suffered from hallucinations and fits of anxiety. He had 10 fights after his unfortunate match with no wins.
