Elmer Bezenah was the brother of fellow boxer Buddy Bezenah. Bezenah was the son of Al Bezenah, who was his manager. After his boxing career, Bezenah worked for three years at the Wright Aeornautical Corp., before moving on to the Lunkenheimer Company in Cincinnati, from which he retired in 1972.

Bezenah boxed as "Elmer Bizani" while based out of Portland, Maine from 1932 to 1934.
