Angelo DeFendis won the 1953 New York Golden Gloves 160lb Open Championship. He defeated Robert Bradley of the Department of Parks in the finals to win the Championship. In 1952, DeFendis advanced to the finals of the 160lb Sub-Novice division, but was defeated by William Haigler of the Police Athletic League. DeFendis trained at the Police Athletic League.
