Art Suffoletta was The Ring magazine's July 1949 Lightweight "Prospect of the Month." He was a hard-hitting, swarming fighter who was the rage of the fight clubs in Connecticut. As an amateur he compiled a record of 34-2 (18) before turning pro on March 29, 1949. He compiled an unbeaten record of 21-0-1 (18) before suffering his first defeat--a fourth round stoppage loss to Chico Vejar.

After the Vejar fight, the 20-year old Suffoletta joined the U.S. Navy (1952-1955). He made an unsuccessful comeback after an absence of 5 + years at age 25, going 3-4-0 (2). He retired from the ring in February 1957 with a record of 24-5-1 (20).
