Samuel Berenberg, a former Post Office supervisor and prizefighter who was known to many in the sports world as Sammy Berne, died yesterday at the Polyclinic Hospital. He was 64 years old and lived at 1949 McGraw Avenue in the Bronx. Mr. Berenberg, who retired on December 31st after 44 years with the Post Office, was a high ranking professional boxer in his youth. Losing a controversial decision to Rocky Kansas in 1925 dictated the end of his career. As a side activity, starting in the early 1930s, Mr. Berenberg, served as a press-box steward for games of the New York Giants at the Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium and the college and professional basketball games at Madison Square Garden. It was Mr. Berenberg's boast that he had not missed even one of the hundreds of of basketball games played in the Garden since the sport was introduced there as a regular attraction in 1933.

He is survived by a son, Stanley; a daughter Mrs. Grace Morris; a brother, Eli, also of the Bronx; a sister, Mrs. Jacob Goldberg of Pittstown, NJ, and four grandchildren.

Berne's professional record is linked, except for three unverified fights, all in 1921:

Eddie Palmer, W Pts 12 Nate Meyers, W Pts 12 Jimmy O'Brien, D 10
