Benny McCoy fought from 1911 through 1923 as a bantam and featherweight.

McCoy began his boxing career, age 15, in his hometown of Baltimore. He was soon taking part in main events in arenas throughout Maryland. Later he came to New York and fought the best bantams of his time. Among his opponents were Joe Lynch, Frankie Burns, Billy Fitzsimmons, K.O. Eggers and others.

He lost a bid for the World Bantamweight Championship May 13, 1916 to Kid Williams, via a seventh-round technical knockout, when his nose was broken.

After retiring from boxing, Benny McCoy became the boxing coach of St. Pascal in Hollis.
