Steeple Jack Martin (often spelled Steeplejack) was a Los Angeles welterweight of the early 1900s. [1][2].
Martin was a streetcar motorman by day, and probably got his nickname for his height. [3]
In 1911, there was a fellow with a similar name whose job was to paint and decorate objects high in the sky, such as flag poles and ferry clocks and the like. [4]. It is unknown if this is the same person.
