Navarro started boxing at 16 years of age in his home town of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He moved to the U.S. permanently with his family in 1991. He stopped fighting in 1993 because he had a big family of four girls to raise.
Agapito Navarro passed away on July 4, 2004, after 2 months hospitalisation for an unknown cause. An autopsy showed that he died of a rare lung disease, he never smoked and it may have been caused by exposure to agricultural chemicals when he was a farm worker.
His love for the sport never left him, he loved boxing till the day he died.
