In the May 24, 1965 edition of the Long Beach Independent on the Newspaper.com website, there was a lengthy article which contained a biographical sketch of Ted Schneider, a retiring fireman who was a professional boxer while serving in the U.S. Army until 1920 and in the U.S. Marines from 1920 to 1928. Schneider was no longer a professional boxer by the time his military career ended. During 1928, he became a fireman in the Long Beach Fire Department, where he worked until his retirement about 37 years later. He and his wife, Freda, had a son, Ted Jr, who was an electronics technician aboard a a Scripps Institute ocean-going research vessel.
Note- According to the article and to various records on the Ancestry.com website, Schneider was born on March 25, 1899 in Abercrombie, North Dakota and died on December 8, 1984 in Lane County, Oregon. According to his U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS Death File on the Ancestry.com website, Schneider served in the military from March 31, 1915 to December 15, 1920 (his U.S. Army service?) and from December 23, 1920 to September 7, 1928 (his U.S. Marine service?).
