Willem Martius fought professionally in the Dutch East Indies while stationed there as a marine in the early 1920s. As a farewell fight he was scheduled to face Klesper at Madiun on April 30 1922, after which he returned on May 10 to the Netherlands where he had already fought as an amateur. He would not enter the ring again before temporarily returning to the East Indies in 1927. He was serving as an officer in the Dutch Navy when he died in 1941 at Holyhead, Wales.
