Based on newspaper accounts of his fights, McGale would appear to have been a defensive boxer, who didn't bring a lot of action into his fights.

Newspapers reporting some of his fights in the Pacific Northwest often said he was from Panama. Thus, his correct location of birth is uncertain.

From the March 14, 1958 Seattle Daily Times:

  • Born in Falmouth, Jamaica, and moved to the United States in 1918.
  • Got his nickname from San Francisco, where he started his boxing career.
  • He moved to Seattle by the late 1920s.
  • Married Nellie in 1930
  • After boxing, he became a longshoreman in Seattle, and a member of Local 19.
  • He served 23 years on the Golden Gloves Committee
  • Athletic Director at Fort Lawton, WA, during World War II
  • Became Eddie Cotton's manager.
  • Long-time Episcopalian, member of Hercules Lodge No. 17, the Masons--Prince Hall Affiliation, Brotherhood of St. Andrews, Beni Hassan Temple No. 64, Shrine, and past potentate of Imperial Council.

McGale, 56, died of a stroke at 1124-24th Avenue, Seattle. Services were at Angelus Funeral Home. He is interred at Greenwood Cemetery, Seattle.
