Legal Troubles

Oltmanns was arrested in November of 2009 for shooting his girlfriend Angela Ligurori in the thigh during a domestic dispute. He was subsequently charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and reckless endangerment. Ligurori had been taken from the residence to her mother's house by police the day prior due to an altercation, but returned the following day to retrieve items.

In July of 2010, the jury acquitted Oltmanns of all charges and were convinced his actions were self-defense and took into account that Liguori had returned to his house unwelcomed after being escorted away by police and allegedly assaulted Oltmanns, who was wheelchair bound at the time from a recent motorcycle crash, prior to the shooting. Jurors considered also that, immediately after shooting her, Oltmanns called 911, stayed with Liguori and tried to stop the bleeding, as evidenced by his recorded 911 call played in court.
