Jimmy Quiocho was the younger brother of fellow boxer Lefty Quiocho. Quiocho served with the United States Air Force in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Quiocho settled in El Paso, Texas later in life, where with a Master's degree he worked as a Physical Education specialist, while also teaching at the University of Texas at El Paso. Quiocho also worked as an official in both professional and amateur boxing in Texas.
