Roberto Vinas won three New York Golden Gloves Championships. Vinas won the 1978 126lb Sub-Novice Championship, 1979 126lb Open Championship and the 1980 125lb Open Championship. In 1978 Vinas defeated Gary Arold in the finals. Arold was trained at the Hugenot Boys Club by former Heavyweight Champion Floyd Patterson.
