According to a news item with a Los Angeles dateline and a headline, "Mack House in Army," in the July 4, 1942 edition of the Pittsburgh Courier, Staff Sergeant Mack House, known as the "California Bearcat" during his days as a professional boxer, was serving as a member of the Headquarters Company of a "crack combat regiment" in Burbank (probably Burbank, California). He had been inducted in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

According to the Pennsylvania, Veteran Compensation Files, 1950-1966 database on Ancestry.com, one Mack House was born on November 24, 1905 in Ventura, California. He entered the service on February 23, 1942 in Fort George, Maryland and was discharged on April 30, 1945 in Fort Devens, Massachusetts. At the time of filling out the application on January 27, 1950, House was living at 302 West 145th Street in New York City. He was scheduled to receive a total of $380. after his application was approved.

According to the U.S. World War II Army Enlistment Records, 1938-1946 database, one Mack House was born during 1905 in California and enlisted on February 23, 1942 while a resident of Luzerne, Pennsylvania. He was 71 inches tall and weighed 216 pounds. House had three years of high school with his civil occupation being in the "General Industry Clerks." House was listed as being "white."
