Roy Taylor won two New York Golden Gloves Championships. Taylor won both the 1971 and 1972 126lb Open Championships. Taylor knocked out Dennis Freyre of the Castle Hill Athletic Club in the first round to win the 1971 title. Taylor met Freyre again for the 126lb Open title in 1972 and Taylor won a decision over Freyre to win the title. Taylor trained at the Wagner Center.
