Asbjørn Berg-Hansen is widely thought of as Norway's best Flyweight boxer to date. He became junior champion in 1933, and went on to take national titles in 1936, 37, 39, 40 -where the second world war put a halt to championships, until- 46, 47 -where he took the title in Bantamweight-, 48 & 50. Berg-Hansen also fought in 26 international championships (1934-50) -with victories in most of them- and is the only boxer to have received the Norwegian Boxing Federation's gold watch for participation in 25 international championships, a record unlikely to ever be matched.

Berg-Hansen also participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, where he, after defeating Alfred Russell (GBR), was ruled a surprising -and publicly unpopular defeat- against Louis Daniel Laurie (USA), who went on to take the bronze.

Berg-Hansen fought in excess of 300 amateur bouts, with less than 20 losses.
