Lahouari Godih was probably the most famous Algerian sportsman ever, beside the swimmer Alfred Nakash. Godih lived in New York at the time of the President Kennedy assassination, and the Algerian representative on the funeral was the Minister of Sports Abdelazzis Bouteflika, later the President of Algeria.
