Maurice Arnault, who later fought Sugar Ray Robinson, started his career in 1932 as Arnoux and later changed his name to Arnault. The November 16, 1940 Cleveland Plain Dealer described Arnault as a Jewish refugee. Won the European (EBU) Lightweight Title in April 1937 from Vittorio Tamagnini and lost it a month later in May 1937 to Gustave Humery. Winning the European Lightweight Title in 1937 and defeating Vittorio Tamagnini probably his most significant victory as a professional fighter.
