  • Robinson was a 3 to 1 favorite.
  • There was a crowd of 14,802 at Chicago Stadium.
  • The gross gate of $180,619 yielded a net gate of $138,938. LaMotta, taking 45% of the net, received $62,522, plus $1,500 from television. Robinson, getting 15%, got $20,840, plus $1,500 from television.
  • Referee Sikora had Robinson ahead 63-57, Judge McAdams had him in front 65-55, and Judge Klein had him on top 70-50.
  • The United Press reported: "At the close of the eighth round, the United Press had LaMotta leading, six rounds to two. However, as LaMotta tired and Robinson concentrated on an up-sweeping attack of uppercuts, bolos, and shovel-hooks against his bobbing opponent, Jake began to wither under the rising fire."
  • The Associated Press scored the fight eight rounds for Robinson, two for LaMotta and two even.
  • Due to the tremendous beating LaMotta endured in the later rounds, the fight became known as the "St. Valentine's Day Massacre."
