Talk:Sergeant Catton
email from Donna Catton
I believe that Sergeant Catton is my father.
He was born in 1891, in NYC, New York – has father was co-owner of Bayer Catton Co. wood working and door and window frame makers.
My father, William Catton “Willie” was a boxer in New York City. He later joined the army and was a boxer for them. He was also a NYC policeman, at one point.
I believe he had over 30 professional fights. He was never knocked out. He fought in Madison Square Garden, before it was Madison Square Garden.
The family have clippings from NYC Times of the early dates, but, my sister wanted us to have a keepsake when he died so she made a collage of most of them.
I know that one time he boxed on the same bill as Gene Tunney. Not sure of the spelling, but, know Tunney had a son who became a Congressman. My father, I believe, was a light weight.
