Tony LaRosa was a speedy southpaw, who fought at a brisk pace, particularly early in bouts. He was not regarded as a hard hitter. LaRosa was generally billed as "Tony LaRose", a slight variation of his real name.
LaRosa was sent to Ohio Reformatory Prison in October 1933 on a robbery charge, he had been indicted on four charges of robbing oil stations with accomplices. He later worked in the family wholesale produce business in Cincinnati, until his retirement. LaRosa was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1986, before dying of heart failure at the age of 84. LaRosa was the father of Buddy LaRosa, an early manager of Aaron Pryor.
