	"British middleweight champion Alan Minter scored a surprise victory over world-rated American Sugar Ray Seales Tuesday night when the referee stopped the fight in the 5th round at London's Royal Albert Hall. Minter appeared beaten until he produced a tremendous right hand to floor the 1972 Olympic champion half-way through the 5th round. The Briton followed up the knockdown as soon as Seales rose, firing punches at him from all angles. Referee Roland Dakin decided the American was in trouble and halted the fight after 2:14 of the 5th round of their scheduled 10 round bout. In the opening three rounds Minter suffered damage to his face and head that worried his cornermen and raised a big question over how long he could last. A large bump appeared on the left side of his forehead and he had a cut on the bridge of his nose and another under his right eye.
