			In the fourth round, Bird began to appeal to the referee for any possible reason. But Povetkin did not take the bait. Byrd defended sluggishly, as a result he missed a fairly strong shot to the nose. In the middle of the sixth round, Povetkin caught Byrd hard in the ear and cheekbone. After these blows, the American even got a little shaky. But the experience helped him out again, and Chris began to attack himself. The Russian, competently using the guard, answered with a good series of four blows to the head. One of them opened a cut in the bridge of Byrd's nose, and Byrd, as if gone berserk, started a real slugfest in the last seconds.

			The eighth round began with furious attacks by Povetkin. Byrd fought back, continuing to demonstrate good preparation for the fight. Alexander began to gradually speed up the pace. As a result, the American ate a blow to the left cheekbone, after which blood literally gushed out of the previously broken nose. The referee was forced to pause the fight. But Byrd showed that he was ready to continue to fight and stood for another two and a half rounds. In the eleventh round, Povetkin brought down such a hail of blows on him that the American's coach was forced to throw a towel into the ring.
